The Doughnut proved to be a treat

Orchard Lake 5

21.5.23

The sun was shinning on Orchard Lake 5 at Paddock wood, more affectionally known as ‘The Doughnut’, which turned out to be a treat for those anglers taking part as the fish went on a feeding frenzy with the lowest weight on the day being over 81lb.

Nick Furniaux, who only joined the club that morning, put in a great all round performance to amass a fantastic weight of F1’s and Carp and run out an easy winner with a final total of 215lb 12oz. Nick fished for the first 3hours shallow at 6m with caster before swapping to pellets at 14m to keep his catch rate going. A final move down the margins in the last hour with paste saw him continue to buid on his weight right up to the final whistle.

Mr Paste himself, Martin Smithers, fished down the margins from the off with his beloved paste while feeding 4mm pelletsto catch steadily throughout the match and finish 2nd on the day with a net bulging weight of 171lb 11oz. Martin put in a great run of fish in the last 45 minutes and it was this that eventually pushed Ian Farmer in to 3rd place, who had been hot on Martin’s tail up to that point.

Ian caught the vast majority of his 149lb 10oz fishing shallow at 7m, feeding 4mm pellets with a 6mm pellet on the hookand added a few fish from the margins in the last hour on worm.

Close behind Ian was Pip Knight with 141lb 8oz caught on maggot fished shallow at 3m. Pip was unlucky as he was justover the 60lb limit in a couple of his keep nets meaning his final weight was slightly cut back.
