No fireworks at Pip’s Silvers lake on Guy Fawkes day.

Firstly, can I apologise for the recent lack of match reports, pressures at work have kept me away from the bank and the computer.

The club fished the latest round of the winter series at Pip’s,  Denne  Farm Silvers Lake on Guy Fawkes Sunday 5th November. Although there were no fireworks, the lake produced a good set of results with all but 3 of the 11 anglers in double figure. At least one of the 3, Ray, nursing a bit of a thick head from the best man roll he played the  evening before.

On the day, the match was fished in changeable conditions with a blustery westerly breeze, and a short but heavy shower in the last hour sandwiched between sunny spells. Overall an improvement in the previous days heavy rain, the temperature topped out about 12 degrees, and the track around the lake holding up well to the vehicle traffic. Ray’s trainers took a bit of a wade through the lake bottom-end at weigh-in, where it had become a little muddy and treacherous.

Winner on the day on peg 2 (marked as 5 on the platform) was myself, Andy Stevenson with 41lb 8oz made up of 9 Bream to 4lb, 11lb of Roach and Skimmers, odd Tench and a few Perch, and a nice Ide about 2lb that I first mistook for a roach! I fished double maggot on the bottom at 10ft at 9 metres. Potting regular Caster Meal groundbait laced with casters that I had driven 30 miles to acquire the day before. Runner up and closing fast was Deano fishing peg 4, last years winning peg, with 30lb 11oz. Fishing double maggot between 6 and 8 metres out. Deano caught well in the last couple of hours and finished with a nice bag of Tench. Third on the day on the end peg 1 was Reg ‘ET Phone Home’ Pearce with 29 lb dead. Reg also fished double maggot close in top 2 and 2. Losing his phone during weight in, Reg was forced to go back and walk around the lake while we phone it, before he found it we were already in the pub.

The next match will be fished on Denne Farm Carp lake on Sunday 19th November. Please book in with either Ray or Ian or use the WhatsApp group.
