Stanbridge View Fishery
05.03.2023
The first match of West Ewell A C’s new season was held at a chilly Stanbridge View near Haywards Heath on Sunday.
The fishing was always going to be tough and while most of the field were struggling to get a bite, John Michaels raced to an early advantage with 5 carp in the first 90 minutes, including two 6lb plus fish, on corn over micros, but that was just about his match finished and he ended the day with 22lb 14oz for 4th place.
On the other side of the lake, Ray Smee had only two small roach in the net after 4 hours, but his perseverance paid off and fishing maggot over groundbait, he had a good run of fish in the last third of the match to finish with 30lb 11oz and a well earned victory.
Ray’s travelling companion, Ian farmer, after two early fish, also caught the bulk of his catch in the later stages of the match, again on maggot, and managed to put 26lb 02oz on the scales for 2nd.
Third on the day was Mark ‘lofty’ Haines who nicked the odd fish throughout the match for a credible 24lb 02oz.
1st R.Smee 30lb 11oz
2nd I Farmer 26lb.02oz
